Showing and ClassesDo I need to be a club member to show?
No, our show is welcome to all non-members, all breeds and all ages. Non-members will not be able to receive any High Point awards however.
Do I have to have a POA to show?
No, all breeds are welcome to come to our show. We are state club inside a national association. All classes will be judged under the National POAC rules and regulations.
What class should I enter if I’m new?
You should enter the classes with the gaits you are most comfortable and confident in. We provide W/T and 3-gait classes. W/T classes are indicated in the show bill.
Do you offer beginner-friendly classes?
Yes we do. We have everything from lead-line to W/T and 3-gait classes. Whether you, your horse, students, or child are new we have a class for you.
Can I move between Walk/Trot and 3-Gait during the season?
Yes, if you are ready to move up form W/T to 3-gait you're more than welcome to. We do not allow cross-entering classes at the same show.
Can I show in more than one division at the same show?
Yes, you can show in all styles of riding and showing from in-hand to english, western and gymkhana.
Are classes divided by rider age or experience?
Classes are separated by age groups and W/T or 3-gait.
Can I show more than one horse or have multiple riders on one horse?
Yes, you can show as many horses or riders per horse as you like. However, group classes can only have one horse/rider combo per group class. Ex: Two 18& under riders can not show on the same horse W/T 18& under pleasure class, but can in 18& under single pole.

Show day and LogisticsDo I need to pre-register, or can I sign up the day of the show?
Pre-registering makes the check-in process for the show staff and yourself much easier, and can save you a $20 fee. However, you are always welcome to sign up day of the show. Check out what shows you can pre-register for today.
What time should I arrive?
Shows typically start at 9am or 5pm. With check-in and open arena warm up starting at 745am or 345pm. The arena will be cleared 15 minutes before the show starts.
Please check the individual show page or the shows FB event to confirm the correct time. Where do I check in when I get to the show?
Check in will be in the office box that over sees the arena. Look up and for a big white box with people coming in and out.
How do I know when my class is?
We do our best to run our shows as smoothly as possible. Classes can run for 5-20 or sometimes even 30+ minutes depending on the amount entries in the classes. Mark your self as going to our show event on FB to get updates on the show, start times, delays, breaks or what classes might be up next in our discussions.
What happens if I miss my class?
We have a two minute gait call for group and individual classes. We do our best to find any missing riders before closing out gait. If your class is miss you will be counted as a scratch.
Do you provide a show schedule ahead of time?
We have a show bill that has a general guide for what order the classes are with warm durations in between classes. We are working on having a more detailed time line for all riders. Mark your self as going to our show event on FB to get updates on the show, start times, delays, breaks or what classes might be up next in our discussions.
What should I bring to my first show?
Tack, attire, equipment for warming up, showing, and cooling down. Water buckets and a hay net for hydration and nutrition for your pony. Cash for jackpot classes, card for any potential concessions, a phone for videos and pictures and the knowledge you're going to have a great time.
Is there help available if I have questions at the show?
Yes! All of, if not most of our board members will be at the show in the office, at the gates or in the ring showing themselves. All board members are happy to answer any questions and help as much as they can or send you to the right board member who can help you best.
Are stalls available, or is it haul-in only?
Most of our show facilities provide stalls and RV parking. If these options are available they will be listed on the individual show pages. You can see all the shows we are host by going to our show page.
Can I come watch before I decide to show?
Of course! We absolutely love and welcome all spectators.

Rules and AttireHow am I supposed to know all the rules?
Most rules are the same across all associations. However, you can see a detailed Class descriptions on our site or check out the National Hand Book yourself.
Do you have to wear a helmet?
You have to wear a helmet in all gymkhana, english and jumping classes no matter your age or experience.
Are helmets allowed in all classes?
Yes, helmets are allowed to be worn in all classes at all ages without any discrimination.
What should I wear for my first show?
This will depend on what classes you are competing in. Details on your required attire for each class can be found on our classes and rules page.
Are there different dress requirements for English vs. Western classes?
English classes require hunt seat attire and tack.
Halter, ranch and western classes require western/ranch attire and tack. Trail and Gymkhana classes require Hunt seat attire and tack or Western attire and tack which ever you are most comfortable in. For more details please check out or classes and rules page. Can I wear a t-shirt during games?
Short sleeves are allowed as long as the shirt has a collar, such as a polo, button up or show shirt.
Do I have to wear a cowboy hat during western classes?
A cowboy hat is required for all western classes, or classes you are showing western in no matter the age. You may choose to wear helmet instead of a hat in any ridden western classes or classes you are showing western in without any discrimination.
Do I need specific tack for different classes?

Why do they give you two numbers, and where do they go?
Two numbers are given so one can go on each side of your western saddle pad. If you are showing halter or english you may wear your number on your back.

Do I need to be a member to earn high point awards?
Yes, anyone who wants to participate in a high point award needs to be a member. Check out our high point page for more details.
How do I qualify for high point?
Every years high point requirements can change based on the previous year experiences, arena availability, and sponsorships. To learn more about this years high point check out our high point page.
What do you get for high point?
Awards may include bridles, headstalls, saddle pads, embroidered jackets, belt buckles, travel gear, and more
What is the Year-End Awards event?
It’s a fun night for everyone! Enjoy good food, activities, time with fellow members and a way celebrate the awesome show year and high point awards together.
Do I have to attend the Year-End Awards to receive my prize?
Some years we will give out high point prizes at the end of a show and others we will host and end or year party to give out your awards.
However if you can not attend to receive your award we are happy to help find a way for you to receive your awards. How is the Utah POA Club set up?
We are a nonprofit organization run by volunteer board members. While we follow national rules, local decisions are made by our Utah board.

All board members must be a member of our club and a member or our national association in order to be a director or hold an officer position.
